How to Set Up My Own Web Site & Domain Name
- 1). Register for web hosting by selecting a hosting site from the Free Web Hosting Directory or Web Hosting Choice. To register, you'll need to enter your contact information. Paid hosting sites require your payment information.
- 2). Choose a domain name from the same site where you buy hosting. If you pay for a domain name, you'll get to choose your extension such as .com or .net. If you get a free domain from one of the free web hosting websites, you won't get to choose your extension.
- 3). Build your website with the host's website builder (some paid hosts offer one), Microsoft Front Page or Dreamweaver.
- 4). FTP your website to the host using Filezilla, Smart FTP, or FTP commander. You won't need to upload anything if you use your host's site builder. And some platforms, such as Microsoft Front Page, come with their own uploading capabilities.
